PREVIEW: BULLDOGS PREPARE FOR THREE GAME WEEKEND

MATCH 1 vs. Gustavus Adolphus
MATCH INFORMATION
The first duel of this long three-match weekend for the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs is against the Gustavus Adolphus Golden Gusties on Feb. 24, 2023, in Virginia, Minnesota at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball club. The whole Bulldogs team has started off extremely hot, winning their first five matches of the season in dominant fashion. The Bulldogs are yet to lose more than two matches to an opponent. Winning their matches by at least a score of 5-2 by the end of it.
"It's great coming into this weekend of three matches undefeated," said Abby Johnson (No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles). "We had some tough matches against all three of these teams last year, but we're very optimistic and excited to see what we can do."
A LOOK BACK The Bulldogs and the Gusties have quite a history, dating back to 2013. Through six matches, Gustavus has the edge. Winning four of the six matches that they've played against each other. In 2022, the Gusties took down the Bulldogs in a swift 6-1 defeat, but the 'Dogs will look to come out on top this year.
SCOUTING THE GUSTIES With an overall record of 1-3 this season, the Gusties are off to a slower start than last year. Gustavus finished last season with an overall record of 19-7 and a conference record of 10-0, finishing first in their conference. In the offseason, the Gusties lost their number one and two singles and are still trying to figure out their lineup. From how it currently looks, Allison Szalay (1-2) and Alli Laux (1-1) have seemed to replace their old talented one and two singles, Simona Potockova and Anna Stutz.

MATCH 2 vs. Mary
MATCH INFORMATION
The second match that the Bulldogs have this weekend is against the University of Mary Marauders on Feb. 25, 2023, in Virginia, Minnesota at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball club.
A LOOK BACK
Since 2019, the Bulldogs have been on a four-game losing streak to the Marauders. Only one of those four matches was at home and that 3-4 match was their closest loss. Since this match in Virginia is technically a home affair, we can assume that the 'Dogs could dominate.
SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS At the moment, the  Marauders team have only had one match this season, winning against MSU Moorhead 5-2. However, last season they finished 9-7, with Chloe Chong being their No.1 singles player. This season, they've switched it up. Putting Chong at the No. 2 spot and Doaa Farouk Mohamed, a sophomore, at the No. 1 spot. She was able to win her first match at the No. 1 singles spot this season, and last season was able to win 14 of her 16 matches at the No. 3 singles spot.

MATCH 3 vs. MSU-Moorhead
MATCH INFORMATION
The final match of the weekend for the Bulldogs is against the MSU-Moorhead Dragons on Feb. 26, 2023, in Virginia, Minnesota at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball club.
A LOOK BACK When looking back at the matches that the Bulldogs and the Dragons have played against each other, the Dragons have the advantage. The Dragons have won eight of the last ten matches, but the 'Dogs won their most recent match against each other. UMD was able to edge out a 4-3 victory over Moorhead last year.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS The Dragons have had an average start to their season with an overall record of 3-3. Only one of these matches was a conference match, and they lost 2-5 against the University of Mary. Shaelyn Johnson (junior), the Dragons' No. 1 singles, used to play for Bemidji State. Johnson was All-NSIC in singles and doubles as a sophomore. In Bemidji, she played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles and had a 12-2 record in 2022. If there's anyone on Moorhead's team to be on the lookout for, it'd be Shaelyn Johnson.
