Box Score The second match of the Bulldogs' three-match weekend was a conference match against the Mary Marauders, which ended in a 5-2 loss. This is the Bulldogs' second loss in a row and their first conference loss of the season. UMD's record now stands at a solid 4-2 overall record, with a 1-1 conference record. "It was a tough day on the court for us," said head coach
Jessica Worden after the match. "However, it was a good way to see some things we can work on when we get to practice next week. We are excited to come out stronger tomorrow."
The Bulldogs were able to take one of the three doubles matches, but couldn't pull out the doubles point. The tandem of
Carly Chaney and
Olivia Honsey played their doubles set extremely well, winning their match with a score of 6-2.Â
Shay Callaway and
Mallory Lithun were in the doubles lineup today instead of the tandem of
Brynne Folden and
Lilly Nelson. Though Folden and Nelson weren't able to play today, they still made their impact off the court. "Yesterday I was excited to have a good day of tennis, and I had a fun time playing with Lilly," said Folden. "It's always fun cheering on my teammates."
In singles, the Dogs took two of the six matches in singles. Chaney, in the No. 5 spot, went 6-6 in her match against Samantha Purpura. After her win today Chaney is still undefeated in singles this season. The other singles point for UMD was the No. 6 spot which was given by default because UMary didn't have a player to fill the spot.
"The ladies all battled hard today and no one gave up no matter what situation they were in," said
Mallory Lithun. "I'm so proud of everyone and we are ready to come back for the match tomorrow."
The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs will return tomorrow for their final match of the weekend where they will be against MSU-Moorhead at 1:30 p.m.
