Box Score The final match of the three-match weekend ended in a reverse sweep win against the MSU-Moorhead Dragons. The UMD Bulldogs were losing 0-3 after the doubles matches and two of the singles matches, but the girls knew they could come back and win. The 'Dogs won four-straight singles matches to beat the Dragons for a final score of 4-3.
Though the Bulldogs were unable to take the doubles point today, they tried something new at the No. 1 spot for doubles, and it worked pretty well.
Shay Callaway and
Mallory Lithun dominated the Dragons' No. 1 doubles, winning their match with a score of 6-1.
The 'Dogs' singles performances today were magnificent, winning four of the six singles matches to take the win against the Dragons.
Abby Johnson, the No.4 singles, who had the longest match today at a time of two hours and twenty-six minutes said, "I am so incredibly proud of everyone's effort, heart, and drive that went into the win today, it was a fantastic way to end the weekend."
Carly Chaney continues her win streak, tying the second-best win streak the Bulldogs have ever seen. This seven-match win streak dates all the way back to Katie Bolf in 2012, over 11 years ago. Chaney has been more than dominant this season, winning her last two matches in two just sets.
At a score of 3-3, the 'Dogs looked like they would complete the comeback. After winning her first set 6-1,
Olivia Honsey looked fantastic. But the Dragons' No. 6 singles, Madison Bell, had other plans for the match. Bell won the second set for a score of 7-5. Bell had momentum going into the third set, and it showed. Honsey was down 2-5 in the third set and came back to make it 7-5 to give the Bulldogs the conference match win against the Dragons. An incredible comeback to complete another incredible comeback. Honsey had this to say after her match, "after losing the doubles point and finding our groove, we definitely earned those four singles points. I love this team and the encouragement each and every one of them gives."
The Bulldogs now have a total record of 5-2 and a conference record of 2-1. With how much this team trusts and encourages each other, there's only brightness in their future.
