Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth women's tennis team got its first home win of the season today, taking down Bethel University, 5-2, at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center.

The Bulldogs took two of three in doubles. The only doubles loss came from the No. 2 pairing of Abby Johnson and Mallory Lithum, with a score of 3-6. Both the No. 1 (Shay Callaway and Megan Muller) and No. 3 (Olivia Honsey and Brynne Folden) pairing came away with a win, with scores of 6-4 for both matches.

The Bulldogs' singles performances today were downright dominating. Winning five out of seven (one exhibition match) against a strong Bethel team. The execution of UMD's singles matches today was highlighted by a dominating Callaway (No. 1 singles), winning both her sets in a 6-2 and 6-4 victory. Callaway said "my forehands felt like I was playing ping pong", but nobody could see that in her performance. The last two singles matches of the day played by Carly Chaney (No. 5) and Honsey (No. 6) handled their matches extremely well. Neither letting up more than three games in a set.

Four wins out of five for doubles (two exhibition matches) and five out of seven (one exhibition match) for singles. This was a commanding start to the season for the Bulldogs and will be a huge momentum builder for their doubleheader tomorrow.
The Bulldogs will be back at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center tomorrow to take on Bemidji State at 12:30 p.m. and St. Scholastica at 7:30 p.m. in a doubleheader. To see the full 2023 season schedule, click here.
