THE SERIES: The Bulldogs are 78-14-8 against St. Cloud State after sweeping the Huskies in St. Cloud, Minn. by scores of 2-0 and 5-1 back in mid-November.

In the Friday night skate, UMD scored early in the first period on goals by Clara Van Wieren (6:19) and Anneke Linser (11:54) to take a 2-0 lead, and UMD's defense did the rest. It held the Huskies to just 14 shots while posting 25, and helped Emma Soderberg to her third shutout of the season at the time.

In game two Saturday afternoon, UMD dominated from start to finish, starting the game with a power play goal from Maggie Flaherty at 17:13 of the first period and five goals later, ending it with an empty-net goal from Flaherty at 16:02 of the third period. In between, UMD's Naomi Rogge became the program's 23rd member of the 100 point club just 1:53 into the second period to make it a 2-0 game. Mannon MacMahon added a goal at 14:41 and Ashton Bell backhanded one in just 36 seconds into the third period.  All told, the Bulldogs scored five unanswered goals and went more than 119 minutes in the series before they surrendered the one goal SCSU had all weekend at the end of the third period.

The contest was the first-ever game and start from freshman goaltender Hailey MacLeod, who made 18 saves in her debut and was 38 seconds from her first career clean sheet.

NOTED: The Bulldogs are unbeaten in their last 14 games with SCSU and 9-0-1 against the Huskies in their last 10 skates.

UMD-SCSU HIGHLIGHT: The two sides have met just once in the second round of the WCHA postseason, a semifinal match-up that came on March 8, 2008 at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center  held WCHA Tournament. The Bulldogs routed the Huskies in what still stands as the most goals scored by a UMD squad in all postseason action 9-0. The Bulldogs had nine players post two or more points and five post three. Haley Irwin (2g, 1a) and Elin Holmov (2g) each had two tallies for UMD, while goaltender Kim Martin and Johanna Ellison combined for teams 10th shutout of the season. (The Bulldogs would go on to add an 11th shutout in the NCAA title game against Wisconsin two weeks later.)

A QUICK LOOK AT THE HUSKIES: The No. 12 Huskies are having one of their best seasons in decade, and have been ranked just outside of the top-10 for the second half of the season. SCSU is led by Jennlina Nylund with 27 points and the second most goals on the team with 13. Goaltenders Jojo Chobak and Sanni Ahola have spilt the 31 games so far, with Ahola (2.59 GAA ) having played in 17 and Chobak (2.54 GAA) 16. The Huskies have a "new" coach in Brian Idalski, who revived the University of North Dakota program before it was scrapped after the 2016-17 season.

LAST TIME OUT: The Bulldogs defeated Minnesota State in overtime 4-3 Friday before settling for a 0-0 tie and an shootout win Saturday afternoon in Mankato, Minn.

Friday, UMD never led until it struck in overtime, it offense chasing the entire game until Gabbie Hughes scored at 16:07 of the third period to draw the Bulldogs even at 3-3. UMD got a first period power play goal from  Gabby Krause, and a second period goal from Mary Kate O'Brien. Mannon McMahon netted the game-winner in overtime at 3:04, securing the win for rookie netminder Hailey MacLeod, who had 15 saves in 62:34 of action.

On Saturday, neither team could breakthrough a 0-0 stalemate, despite overtime. The lone puck to cross the goal line of the game (that counted) was Maggie Flaherty's shootout effort, which coupled with Emma Soderberg's work between the pipes, delivered a 1-0 shootout win for UMD and with it, WCHA first round playoff ice. Soderberg had 20 saves in her eighth shutout of the season and 19th of her career.
