Box Score 2 Match 1 vs. Winona State
The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs'Â first doubleheader match ended in a 2-5 NSIC conference loss against the Winona State Warriors at the neutral site in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
The Bulldogs were unable to take any of the doubles matches against the Warriors but looked to pick up points in the singles matches.
UMD took two of the six matches today, with wins from
Carly Chaney and
Laura Palmer. Palmer's match against Miranda Daulang of the Warriors (7-5, 7-6) went the distance in both of their sets. Palmer was able to win both of the sets but in a very close manner.
When asked about the team's overall performance in the match, Palmer said, "today was a tough match against Winona, there was a lot of effort there, but it just didn't play out in our favor. Looking forward to being on the road again and we'll be ready for our upcoming matches."
Match 2 vs. Upper Iowa University
The Bulldogs' second match of the day ended in a 5-2 NSIC conference win against Upper Iowa Peacocks. After the two matches today, UMD's overall record stands at 8-3, with a NSIC conference record of 5-2.
This Bulldogs team came out strong at the start of the doubles matches. The Bulldogs' No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams won their sets, and the No. 3 doubles team of the Peacocks had to forfeit the match, as their were no players available. The Bulldogs took all of the doubles matches, and went into the singles matches with a boost of momentum.
The singles against Upper Iowa were just as dominant, winning four of the six matches played. One of those matches were forfeited by the Peacocks, as they didn't have anyone to fill their No. 6 spot. After Palmer had stepped into the No. 5 spot since
Megan Muller's injury last week, she has been a force to be reckoned with. Palmer is now on a four match-win streak in the singles category and will look to push it to a fifth next Thursday.
Chaney started at the No. 3 spot against UIU and won her match. At the beginning of the season, she was placed at the No. 5 singles spot, and the No. 3 doubles spot but has now moved up two spots in the lineup and has still been just as dominant.
Carly Chaney now has 11 straight singles match wins in a row, continuing her historical record-breaking streak.
UP NEXT The Minnesota Duluth women's tennis team will be in Marshall, Minnesota for a match against the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on March 30, 2023.Â
