DULUTH, Minn. – No. 1 Wayne State College (Neb.) recorded nine blocks and had a .330 hitting percentage as the 10
th-ranked University of Minnesota Duluth volleyball team fell to Wildcats in three sets on Homecoming Saturday at Romano Gymnasium.
How It Happened
The Wildcats (14-1, 5-0 NSIC) never trailed in the match, building 10-2 leads in each of the first two sets. The Bulldogs would get back within three points in each of those sets, but Wayne State prevailed in set one 25-19 and in set two 25-17.
UMD continued to battle in the third set as
Madeline Guetzkow had three kills to open the set. Later in the set, trailing by five points, it was Guetzkow again with three consecutive points followed by back-to-back terminations by
Cianna Selbitschka tied the set at 15-15.
The Wildcats continued to hold off the Bulldogs, including a 4-0 UMD run late capped off by a Selbitschka service ace that made it 23-22. Wayne State registered the final two points to take the set and the match 25-22.
Top Performers
Paige Decker led the Bulldogs with 11 kills. Selbitschka added a double-double for the fourth time in the last five matches and her seventh of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. Guetzkow finished with a season-high seven kills, all coming in the final set.
Madison Gordon had 34 assists and
Kaylyn Madison finished with team-high 16 digs.
