Two University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey players -- sophomore goaltender Ève Gascon and freshman forward
Caitlin Kraemer -- have been named to Canada's National Women's Development Team for its three-game series against the United States that will take place from August 14-17 at Canada Games Park in Thorold, Ontario.
The pair are two of 24 players named to the roster, with Gascon one of three goaltenders and Kraemer one of 13 forwards. Kraemer is also one of nine players who won gold at the 2023 U-18 Women's Worlds in Östersund, Sweden.
Gascon, who skated for Development Team last August prior to joining the Bulldogs, set a rookie program record for shutouts last season with seven -- the third most in all of the NCAA -- and was a HCA Rookie of the Year Award Watch List honoree. Named to the 2023-24 WCHA's All-Rookie Team, Gascon, a product of Mascouche, Quebec, was three times the WCHA's Rookie of the Week and posted the fifth-highest saves percentage in the NCAA (.946).
Kraemer, who will arrive in Duluth later this month, joins the Development Team after leaving the U-18 program as its all-time leading scorer. The Waterloo, Ontario native compiled 37 goals in 32 games played for a total of 53 points as a U-18 national team member, and helped Canada's U-18 squads to a bronze medal in the 2024 IIHF World Championship, where she scored a tournament-high 10 goals for a second-consecutive season. Kraemer also lead the tournament in scoring and Canada to a gold medal in the 2023 U18 Canada IIHF World Championship.
