Arguably no player in the country had an offensively hotter February that University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey forward
Olivia Wallin, and on Thursday, the Hockey Commissioners Association agreed.
The fifth-year senior was named the HCA National Player of the Month just two days after scooping up the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Forward of the Month for February.Â
Wallin had an explosive month and led the league with 15 points over seven games at a 2.14 points per game average. The native of Oakville, Ontario also led the WCHA with nine assists and recorded four multiple point games -- half of the games she skated in. Over those games, three were skates with three or more points, including a career-high six points (2g, 4a) against Minnesota State on Feb. 14. Wallin's game-winner with five seconds left in last Friday's comeback over St. Cloud State University in the opening game of the WCHA First Round highlighted her month -- she had three points (1g, 2a) -- figuring in all three goals in that game.
Wallin currently leads the Bulldogs with a career-best effort of 38 points on 16 goals and 22 assists, and will look to help fourth-seeded UMD when it hosts the No. 1 Univesity of Wisconsin on Friday in the opening game of the WCHA Final Faceoff at AMSOIL Arena. Puck drop is set for 1:00 p.m.
