FIRST SERVE: The University of Minnesota Duluth tennis team will play five matches starting on Monday, March 10 over the course of four days in Orlando, Fla., for its annual spring break get-away. The Bulldogs (2-2) compete against Swarthmore College that Monday night. The following day, UMD takes on Oglethorpe University in the morning before squaring off with Ohio Wesleyan University during the evening. UMD will enjoy a nice one-day break in The Sunshine State before returning to battle Connecticut College and Grinnell College in a Thursday double dip to conclude the tennis slate.
SCOUTING REPORT ON SWARTHMORE COLLEGE: The Garnet are ranked No. 26 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III rankings. They hold a 2-2 record after dispatching Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday. Swathmore is 13-11 in singles action and 5-7 in doubles play with a matchup against Oglethorpe coming before playing the Bulldogs. Erin Li and Kathleen Shiffer are each 3-1 in singles matches.Â
SCOUTING REPORT ON OGLETHORPE: The Stormy Petrels are 1-1 this season coming into their Florida schedule. They defeated LaGrange College 7-0 in their last match back on March 1. Oglethorpe is .500 in singles (12-12) and doubles (3-3) competition. They face North Central College and Swarthmore before taking on UMD on Tuesday.Â
SCOUTING REPORT ON OHIO WESLEYAN: The Battling Bishops are 1-0 this season with a 4-3 win over Mount Union in its lone contest of the year. They went 7-9 last year loss to Wittenberg in the NCAC tournament. They went 3-3 in singles and swept the doubles 3-0. Frankie Nuss, Emma Pzedpelski and Evaleigh Garnett each won in singles and doubles over Mount Union. The Bishops will be tested against Emerson before dueling the Bulldogs Tuesday night.
SCOUTING REPORT ON CONNECTICUT COLLEGE: The Camels are 0-3 during the 2025 spring season with their latest loss against Bates College on Saturday. Connecticut College wraps up its six-game Florida trip with Crieghton University and UMD on Thursday. Maya Kowalska is the lone Camel to sport a winning singles record at 2-1. The Camels are 5-21 in singles and 1-8 in doubles this spring.Â
SCOUTING REPORT ON GRINNELL: The Pioneers are ranked No. 27 in the ITA Division III national rankings with a 7-2 record. They have won two of their last three games including blanking DePauw University in their latest match back on March 2. Grinnell has five matches with three DIII ranked opponents before squaring off with the Bulldogs on Thursday. The Pioneers are 59-18 in dual singles and 28-11 in dual doubles. Lily Perrin leads Grinnell with 12 singles wins with a 3-0 record at the No. 1 spot. Pari Chavan is 1-1 against nationally ranked opponents.Â
WELCOME BACK: This season marks the first time since 2017 that Bulldogs made the trek to Florida. That season, UMD went 2-3 with wins over Penn State berks and St. Benedict. Both were shutout victories of 9-0.
PREVIOUSLY: UMD had its two-match winning streak to start the season come to a close with losses to Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action back on Feb. 21-22. The Bulldogs suffered a 6-1 setback to the Golden Eagles in the conference opener then fought hard to lose a 5-2 decision to the Beavers in a rematch from the season and home opener.Â

Olivia Gorton has stood out with a 3-0 start in singles play this season. Gorton won each of her No. 5 battles then stepped up to capture a No. 4 victory last time out versus Bemidji State. The Hopkins, Minn., native is one of four Bulldogs to sport a undefeated singles mark and the lone Bulldog to have three singles victories this spring.Â
SNEAK PREVIEW: The Bulldogs continue conference play -- its first true road test of the season -- with a NSIC match against Winona State University on Saturday, March 22 at 12:00 p.m. in Winona, Minn.Â
