Five University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey players were drafted Tuesday night in the third-ever PWHL Draft held in Ottawa, Ontario.
The five, who all suited up for the Bulldogs just four months ago, were forward
Olivia Mobley (Round 3, Overall pick 18), defenseman
Nina Jobst-Smith (Round 3, Overall pick 19, forward
Clara Van Wieren (Round 3, Overall pick 23), defenseman
Hanna Baskin (Round 6, Overall pick 43) and forward
Olivia Wallin (Round 6, Overall pick 47). The five marks the second-most Bulldog draftees ever taken in the league.
Mobley made a huge impact in her only season as a Bulldog, and was named a All-WCHA Third Team selection in only her second year in the league after she compiled 27 points, with 19 goals – tying surpassing her collegiate single-season high for goals. The product of St. Louis Park, Minn. led the nation with four shorthanded goals, and was just one of four players in 26 seasons of UMD hockey to have reached that mark. Mobley had five games with two or more points, and logged three game-winning goals.Â
Jobst-Smith became the sixth-ever Bulldog defenseman taken in the PWHL draft, and just the third taken in the first three rounds. Jobst-Smith graduated in May the 1tth highest scoring UMD defenseman in program history – a single point from the tenth slot. With 68 career points to her name, complete with 20 goals, her 55 assists also ranks seventh all-time among UMD blueliners. The North Vancouver, B.C. native -- who will return home to play professional hockey -- also left UMD tied for the second most games played at UMD – 172. Named a 2024-25 All-WCHA Second Team selection, Jobst-Smith was also a 2023-24 All-WCHA Third Team honoree. As a fifth-year and team captain this past season, Jobst-Smith compiled a 18 point season (3g, 15), and missed only two games due to the German Olympic Team successfully qualifying in February. She also skated in the 2025 IIHF Women's World Championship.

Van Wieren finished her outstanding career as the all-time games played leader (174 games), and reached the 100th career point milestone – only the 16th UMD career player to reach the 50 goal mark this past season after putting up a team-leading tie of 40 points (17g, 22a), which included a Bulldog-best five game-winning goals. A product of Okemos, Mich. Van Wieren maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA over her entire collegiate career in the classroom. A two-time, back-to-back winner of the WCHA Outstanding Student Athlete of the Year Award, a multiyear CSC Academic All America, AHCA All –American Scholar, WCHA Scholar Athlete, and member of the WCHA All-Academic Team, Van Wieren was also a 2024-25 All-WCHA Third Team selection. An invitee of multiple USA Hockey National Festival invites and team captain with Jobst-Smith last season, Van Wieren, also a team captain, finished her career with 122 points (54g, 68a). She was a Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup Finalist in April, and was named both UMD Athletics' E.L Duce Rasmussen Female Scholar-Athlete Award and Shjon Podein Community Service Award winner.

Wallin, along with Van Wieren, led the Bulldogs with a career-best 40 points on 16 goals and 24 assists – also a career-high. The Oakville, Ontario native also led UMD with a +28 plus/minus rating and was named the HCA Forward of the Month for her explosive offensive efforts in February – she also was named the WCHA Forward of the Month for five goal, nine assist 14 point over eight games for a 2.00 points per game average. In all, Wallin put up 64 points in just 78 career games with the Bulldogs, which included 22 goals and 42 assists.

Baskin, an alternate captain for UMD her senior season, made this past year her best offensive year, recording 21 assists and one goal for a career-high 22 points. The Excelsior, Minn. product skated in 144 games as a Bulldog, and collected 55 career points on seven goals and 48 assists. Baskin was named to the CSC All-District Academic Team earlier this week and, and is a two-time WCHA Scholar Athlete and three-time All-WCHA Academic Team member, as well as an ACHA Academic All-American.
As a program, UMD has now had 18 players drafted over the past three years. The Bulldogs had the third most alums in the PWHL during the 2024-25 season with a total of 13.
