A whopping 10 current University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey freshmen, and 11 in total earned 2024-25 NCHC Academic All-Conference Team nods Monday after having completed a full academic year a UMD, including eight that earned NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete status.
The 11 include
Callum Arnott (Forward, King City, Ontario ),
Blake Bechen (Forward, Dubuque, Iowa),
Harper Bentz (Forward, Moorhead, Minn.),
Adam Gajan (Goaltender, Poprad, Slovakia),
Ty Hanson (Defenseman, Hermantown, Minn.),
Adam Kleber (Defenseman, Chaska, Minn.),
Max Plante (Forward, Hermantown, Minn.),
Zam Plante (Forward, Hermantown, Minn.),
Jayson Shaugabay (Forward, Warroad, Minn.)
Trevor Stachowiak (Forward, Glencoe, Illinois ) and former goaltender
Klayton Knapp.
Eight freshmen were named NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete -- Bechen, Bentz, Gajan, Hanson, Kleber,
Max Plante,
Zam Plante and Stachowiak.
To earn a spot on the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must compile a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average (or better) and have completed a full academic year at their current institution. Similarly, to garner NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors, a student- athlete must attain a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better with a full year of academic studies. Freshmen and first-year transfers were not eligible when NCHC academic accolades were first announced in late February. Athletic success and playing time are not criteria for these awards.
The Bulldogs boasted 13 on the earlier NCHC Academic All-Conference Team announced in February, and run their total to an impressive 24 players who earned conference accolades in the 2024-25 season.
