University of Minnesota Duluth senior thrower
Jackson Weston wrapped up his outstanding collegiate career Saturday in Emporia, Kansas with an 18th place finish in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Weston's best throw of the day was a 16.69 -- well below his season-best toss of 17.84 that the Grand Rapids, Minn. native threw a month ago in Minneapolis, Minn. at the Gary Wilson Invitational. With just three throws on the day, Weston was unable to reach the final with two other throws of 15.78 and 16.32.
Weston was the lone Bulldog to make an appearance in the NCAA Championship meet and the first shot put athlete since Dan Soldner won the title back in 2004. A UMD shot put thrower has now made it to the meet just four times in program history.
