Franklin Pierce College snapped the University of Minnesota Duluth's four-game winning streak and avenged a doubleheader sweep by the Bulldogs yesterday with a pair of wins today at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. The Ravens won the opening game 5-3 and claimed the nightcap 18-13.
In game one, junior pitcher
Luke Hagman (Ham Lake, Minn.) took the loss for UMD. At the plate, Bulldog junior
Brian Bataglia (Lakeland, Minn.) provided the bulk of the highlights, rapping a pair of singles in three at-bats.
Greg Aker (Superior, Wis.) and
Nate Taran (Hermantown, Minn.) also chipped in, each slapping a double in three at-bats.
Game two proved to be a slugfest with UMD junior infielder
Tim Garceau (Marinette, Wis.) taking the loss in a rare pitching stint. Freshman
Andrew Heieie (Apple Valley, Minn.) was two-for-four in the loss and sophomore
Nic Spaeth (De Pere, Wis.) connected for a grand slam, the first home run of his collegiate career.
The Bulldogs, now 6-8 on the season, return home tomorrow. Their next action will come Wednesday at Winona State University.
