PECK NAMED BULLDOG BASEBALL PITCHING COACH

Shawn Peck, who served as the head coach at Thorp High School (Wis.) the past two seasons, has been added to the University of Minnesota Duluth baseball staff as the team's new pitching coach.
"I am looking forward to helping out the ball club," said Peck. "We want to take things one day at a time and hopefully everything will work out in the end."

In addition to his head coaching duties at Thorp High School, Peck was an assistant coach for the Eau Claire Express of the Northwoods League during each of the last summers. The Express posted a franchise-best 44-29 record in 2007.

Peck was named a USA TODAY All-American honorable mention selection while at Chippewa Falls High School (Wis.). He played one year of collegiate ball at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls before competing two more seasons at Viterbo University (La Crosse, Wis.). He holds Viterbo's records for wins and complete games in a single season, as well as the school's career record for complete games. In 2000, Peck's NAIA-leading 1.06 ERA helped land him a spot on the NAIA All-American team.

Peck graduated from Viterbo University in 2002 with a B.S. degree in broad field social studies and a history minor. Following graduation, Peck coached at Viterbo for three seasons before taking over as Thorp High School's head baseball coach.

Bulldogs head coach Bob Rients is optimistic that adding coach Peck to the coaching staff will benefit the entire team. "We are very excited to have coach Peck join our program," Rients said. "His coaching background will be a great asset to our future development and our program as a whole."
