UMD SWEPT IN FLORIDA VS. FLORIDA SOUTHERN

The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team dropped a pair Saturday in Florida, losing 14-2 and 11-1 to Florida Southern University to finish off the three-game series.

The Bulldogs (3-4 overall) collected eight of the day's 13 hits from the top four in their lineup, but couldn't put together a rally of more than one run per inning, while the Moccasins managed 26 hits over two games.

UMD grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one, on an RBI single from sophomore third baseman Orry Engebretsen. Senior shortstop Tyer Erickson and junior second baseman Marcus Riewer each collected a pair of hits and scored the team's only two runs.

Junior pitcher Tyler Blomberg started the first game for the Bulldogs, going 3 2/3 innings and giving up eight runs on five hits.

Florida Southern scored nine of its 11 runs in game two during the first three innings, and held UMD to just five hits. Sophomore outfielder Cody Aasen broke up the shutout in the final inning of the seven-inning game, hitting a solo home run to put UMD on the board.
