Senior pitcher Josh Foreman tossed another masterpiece Sunday, as the University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team continued to roll, picking up its sixth consecutive win in blustery conditions.
The Bulldogs (14-20 overall, 8-12 NSIC) rode the back of Foreman's six-hit complete game shutout to top Augustana College 4-0 Sunday in Duluth. Foreman pitched to contact, striking out just two while allowing no walks in the seven-inning win. Both teams agreed to suspend game two of the doubleheader to Monday, due to cold weather.
Sophomore outfielder Cody Aasen put UMD on the scoreboard in the fourth, driving a one-out double to left to score junior first baseman Anders Engberg. Engberg scored twice in the game, collecting one of the team's seven hits.
The Bulldogs made use of a Vikings error on a sacrifice bunt attempt in the sixth, and broke the game wide open with three insurance runs. Sophomore designated hitter Evan Walker bunted in the only RBI of the sixth for UMD, as the Bulldogs manufactured all three runs out of just one hit. Walker was the only player for UMD to collect two hits, finishing 2-2 with a sacrifice bunt.
Foreman pitched himself out of a jam in the seventh after giving off back-to-back hits with no outs, coaxing a pair of key groundouts to first base. He collected his fifth win of the season.
The teams will meet again tomorrow, in an attempt to get three games in. The start was originally scheduled for noon, but with an added game to the schedule, a possibility remains for the first game to begin earlier. Stay tuned for updates.
