BULLDOGS GET OFFENSIVE IN 6-2 WIN OVER MINNESOTA STATE

Zoe Hickel put up four points for the Bulldogs Friday night against the Mavericks.
Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth put the NCAA's third most potent offense on full display Friday night and unforunately for Minnesota State University, Mankato, the Mavericks had a front row seat of that Bulldog firepower.

UMD unloaded six goals, including three power-play tallies, to soundly defeat the Mavericks 6-2 at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn.  The Western Collegiate Hockey Assocation win was the first of the season for the Bulldogs, who now improve to 3-3-1 overall and 1-3-1 in WCHA action.

Mankato struck first 10:45 into the first period on a goal from Kari Lundberg, but UMD's Jamie Kenyon countered just 2:40 later, putting in a tipped puck from the stick of junior winger Jenna McParland on the power-play.  Rookie center Ashleigh Brykaliuk popped in her second goal of the season on a Sidney Morin shot that came off the power-play 5:58 into the second stanza to give the Bulldogs the 2-1 lead.  Kenyon then poked the puck past the goal line for her second power-play tally of the night at the 15:31 mark of the second.

It was all UMD from there, with junior forward Zoe Hickel netting her third on the season 1:22 into the final period off a Maverick turnover created by Meghan Huertas.  Hickel helped make it 5-1, assisting rookie forward Demi Crossman on her first Bulldog goal before adding a shorthanded goal -- her second tally of the night -- with just 1:47 left in the contest.

Overall, UMD was 3-of-4 with the extra skater on the night and outshot MSU 31-27, while  Bulldog netminder Kayla Black turned in 29 saves.

Both teams will hit the ice again in Mankato tomorrow afternoon with a 3:07 p.m. start scheduled at All Seasons Arena.

BULLDOG NOTES:  UMD was without senior center Brienna Gillanders, who is out indefinitely with an injury... Three Bulldogs had two or more points on the night, including Zoe Hickel with four (2g, 2a), Jenna McParland (3a) and Jamie Kenyon (2g).
