USA TODAY/USA HOCKEY MAG: UMD-- Receiving Votes, Wisconsin- No. 2

THE SERIES:  UMD is 29-28-10 all-time against the Badgers and went 2-2 against Wisconsin last season.  The Bulldogs and UW have also gone into overtime in 21 of their 67 skates.  In fact, over the course of the previous 14 seasons, the Bulldogs and Badgers didn't go into extra time only twice  -- UMD's first year in 1999-00 and in 2011-12.

Their last series took place in Madison on Feb. 16-17, a sweep for Wisconsin by scores of 1-3 and 2-3 (overtime).  In the opening games, UMD was slapped for 10 penalties in the skate, including six in the first period.  All three Badger goals came off the power-play.

In the Sunday contest, an early UMD goal was called back, but the Bulldogs got goals from both Jenna McParland and Jamie Kenyon.  Kenyon's goal with 5:37 remaining in regulation pushed the game into overtime, but the Badgers netted the game-winner 2:38 into extra time.

McParland has a total of five goals and two assists for seven career points  against UW in nine career games.

LAST TIME OUT:  UMD hosted team Russia for an exhibition game Tuesday, exploding for five third period goals after owning a 3-0 lead after the first 40 minutes of action.

Senior winger Jamie Kenyon had two goals and two assists for four points against Russia, while junior forward Meghan Huertas added two goals and an assist for three points.  Freshman blueliner Sidney Morin recorded three assists and six players total registered two or more points in the skate.  Sofia Carlstrom manned the pipes for the Bulldogs and turned away all 29 shots she faced from Russia, who outshot UMD 29-27 in the game.

The Bulldogs split with Bemidji State over the weekend at AMSOIL Arena by scores of 3-0 and 1-0.  Friday night UMD recorded a goal in each period. including a power-play goal by Ashleigh Bryaliuk in the first period and a short-handed goal by Emma Stauber, her first score of the year, in the second period.  Sophomore center Hannah Bramm added a third goal with 1:52 remaining in the game.  Kayla Black earned her second-consecutive and seventh career shutout with 17 saves and the Bulldogs outshot the Beavers handily 42-17.

Saturday night UMD again put up shots against BSU, owning a 18-6 shot advantage in the game alone.  Despite outshooting the Beavers 38-16 in the skate, BSU snuck in a power-play goal with 15 seconds remaining to upset the Bulldogs 1-0.

NOTES FROM THE RUSSIA GAME AND BEMIDJI SERIES:  Saturday's loss to BSU snaps UMD's four-game unbeaten streak, as well as a 215:11 shutout streak the Bulldogs had dating back to Nov. 2.  The setback also brings to an end the Bulldogs five-game winning streak against the Beavers.  All-time, the Bulldogs are 57-4-2 against the Beavers.

--UMD outshot the Beavers 80-33 in the series but only outscored BSU 3-1.

--In two exhibition games against national teams so far this season (Russia and Japan), the Bulldogs have outscored their opponent 14-2.

BULLDOGS INK FOUR IN EARLY-SIGNING PERIOD:  Two current members of the U-18 Canadian National Team — Jessica Healey and Catherine Daoust — along with two Minnesota natives Lynn Astrup (Warroad)  and Duluth's own Alexia Klaas (Duluth) have all signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and play hockey at UMD next season.

YOUTH MOVEMENT:  Senior forward Jamie Kenyon played in her 101st and 102nd collegiate games last weekend, making her just the second player on the current roster to have skated in over a 100 games.

Injured senior center Brienna Gillanders has 106 games in her belt, but 12 of UMD's 20 players that skate out have suited up for less than 50 career games.

TOP DOGS:  Junior winger Jenna McParland leads UMD in scoring with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists over 14 games.  Senior Jamie Kenyon and rookie Lara Stalder each have 14 points, Kenyon with six goals and eight assists and Stalder with four goals and 10 assists.

Currently Stalder is also the highest scoring defenseman in the WCHA with her 14 points and ranks fourth in the nation for both rookie scoring and defenseman scoring with a 1.00 points per game average.  Kenyon ranks fourth in power-play goals with four.

Blueliner Tea Villila owns UMD's top plus/minus rating with +9 and the Bulldogs are averaging 2.93 goals a game and 35 shots on goal.  The Bullldogs are 5-0-1 when they net the first goal in a contest and are 4-1-1 away from AMSOIL, compared to 3-4-1 in Duluth
