Three standout high school student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend and play baseball for the University of Minnesota Duluth starting at the beginning of the 2013-14 academic year while three others have signed a Letter of Acceptance.
The latest group of additions to the Bulldog program bolsters next year's recruiting class that already included fall signees Kevin Stocke, Brian Pierce and Matt Vogt. UMD now officially has nine newcomers set to compete for playing time when practice commences next fall. This most recent crop of signees, all of which come from the Minnesota prep circuit, include: Alex Brady, Grant Farley, Skyler Wenninger, Zach Ludwig, Colton Sinning, and Noah Tapper.
Alex Brady (Util • 6-0 • 190 • Rochester, Minn. • Rochester H.S.)
Currently participating in a season that will mark a half-decade of tenure behind the plate at John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minn. … earned the right to serve as a captain this spring under head coach Terry Heiderscheit … four-time letterwinner landed All-Big Nine acclaim in 2011 and 2012, as well as an All-Section nod in 2012 … helped the Rockets bag conference titles during his sophomore and junior seasons … also contributed on the football field, earning a pair of all-conference nods at outside linebacker … is the son of Brian and Beth Brady.
Grant Farley (P/OF • 6-2 • 175 • Adnover, Minn. • Coon Rapids H.S.)
Primed to build on a stellar junior year that saw him lead his Coon Rapids High School club in home runs and slugging percentage ... helped the Cardinals make a run to the section final as a sophomore in 2011 … has the privilege of taking on the role of team captain this spring under head coach Jerry Coe … also participated in baseball and football at Coon Rapids … is the son of Michael and Betsy Farley.
Skyler Wenninger (SS/P • 6-0 • 160 • Luverne, Minn. • Luverne H.S.)
Comes into his final prep go-around set to serve as a team captain for the Luverne High School Cardinals coached by his father, Mike Wenninger …produced back-to-back stellar seasons in which he led Luverne on the mound with a team-leading earned run average … built a reputation as a consistent on-base threat, having batted .350 or better each of his last two years while seeing steady run at the shortstop position … has swiped 31 bags thus far in his high school career and racked up a career-high 19 steals en route to landing All-Southwest Conference acclaim as a junior last spring … also participated in hockey (three-time letterwinner) and football (two letters) with the Cardinals, earning the right to share the captaincy with each of those teams as well … earned three all-conference nods on the ice and leading the team in scoring this past winter … is the son of Mike and Lauri Wenninger.
Zach Ludwig (Util • 6-1 • 180 • Princeton, Minn. • Princeton H.S.)
Served as one of the captains for the Princeton Tigers in 2012, a role he will fill once again as a senior this spring … spent each of the past two seasons as a mainstay in the Princeton lineup under head coach Jesse Zimmer, following up an All-Granite Ridge Conference honorable mention selection in 2011 with an all-conference performance as a junior last year … put in two tours of duty as the Tigers' starting quarterback, landing all-conference and team MVP honors as a senior captain this past fall … is the son of Judy Ludwig.
Colton Sinning (P • 6-2 • 160 • Pine Island, Minn. • Pine Island H.S.)
Through three years of starting duty at Pine Island High School, he has seen himself slotted all over the diamond, but poses the biggest threat on the mound … earned a spot on the All-Hiawatha Valley League team to go along with an all-subsection nod as a junior for his efforts as a right-handed pitcher … serving as a team captain this spring under head coach Craig Anderson … also utilized his athletic ability on the hardwood, earning three letters as a two-year starter on the Panther basketball team … is the son of Rob and Kristen Sinning.
Noah Tapper (C/OF • 6-0 • 200 • Duluth, Minn. • Duluth East H.S.)
Returns for his final prep-go around after leading his Duluth East High School team in the home run department as a junior … currently serving as a team captain under head coach John Rudolph … participated on the gridiron for one season, earning a varsity letter as a running back and linebacker with the Greyhound football team … is the son of Mark and Sheila Tapper.
