NO. 1 MINNESOTA STATE COMES TO DULUTH AS STORMONT SEEKS UMD RECORD

The University of Minnesota Duluth eyes an upset on Friday night when top-ranked Minnesota State University Mankato will visit under the lights of Malosky Stadium, while senior forward Maureen Stormont eyes the Bulldog program records for goals and points as the Bulldogs host Concordia University, St. Paul for Senior Day on Sunday.

UMD (6-8, 6-5 NSIC) holds onto a playoff spot in the NSIC, currently eighth in the standings, but the road doesn't get easier with the undefeated top team in the nation coming to town. Still, the Bulldogs took the Mavericks to the limit in 2013 with penalty kicks earning Mankato last season's NSIC Tournament Championship.

QUICK HITS
• Stormont scored three goals as the Bulldogs went 1-1 last weekend and moved within one score of tying the UMD program record, while also sitting just three back of the program record for points. She tied the UMD record for goals, netting a pair of scores on three shots on goal against U-Mary on Sunday afternoon.
• Senior defender Kelli Klun led a Bulldog defense that shut out U-Mary on Sunday afternoon while allowing just a pair of shots on goal and added a pair of assists against the Marauders, her first points of the season. Senior goalkeeper Marissa Rosa collected her fourth shutout of the season on Sunday afternoon, and made five saves despite suffering the loss between the pipes on Friday against Minot State.

"You always say, 'that'll never be broken,' but of course, someone will come along," said Coach Cane about Stormont being on the cusp of breaking Jen Warrick Reierson's goals and points records. "I knew when Maureen chose to come to UMD that she'd be a player who would have the possibility, and it's come to fruitition. I think it speaks for our team in the period that she's been here that we've accomodated her, used her tools, and put her in positions to succeed. She'd say that, too. You see that potential as a natural scorer when she has these tremendous goals that she scores, like the back-heel kick [in the home-opener against St. Cloud State]. In college soccer - women or men - you don't see that kind of play."

SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS (Friday, Oct. 24, 6:00 p.m.) - Live Stats | Live Video
14474• No. 1 Minnesota State (14-0, 11-0 NSIC) has allowed just four goals all season, and has beaten its last four opponents by a combined score of 18-2. The Mavericks knocked Augustana (S.D.) College out of the Top 25 with a 5-1 win in Mankato last time out.
• Junior forward Korey Kronforst and sophomore midfielder Kiana Nickel lead the Maverick offense, each with 24 points on the season. For Kronforst, that includes 11 goals, tied for second-most in the NSIC behind UMD's Stormont. Nickel earned NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors with nine points last weekend.
• Senior goalkeeper Molly McGough has spent the majority of time between the pipes for MSU, leading the NSIC with a 0.37 goals against average in 12 starts. The Maverick defense has been the key, though, as they've allowed just 4.3 shots per game, including 25 total shots on goal all season.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS (Sunday, Oct. 26, 1:00 p.m.) - Live Stats | Live Video
14480• Concordia-St. Paul (4-9-1, 3-7-1 NSIC) has not always found offense easy to come by, suffering eight shutouts this season. The Golden Bears have lost four straight, but twice in overtime and once in the final minute of the match, leading into this weekend.
• Junior midfielder Taryn McMillan leads the CU offense with four goals on the season, and she's tied with junior forward Alahna Anderson (three goals) for the most points on the team with eight. Though CU has just 17 goals as a team, they've held opponents to just 23 on the year as well.
• Junior goalkeeper Emma Gartner is seventh in the NSIC with 58 saves on the season, starting 13 games so far this season with a 1.71 GAA and a pair of shutouts on the year.

BULLDOG 'BYTE
"Right now, we're just so focused on trying to get three points every day. Quite frankly, it doesn't matter if it's Mankato or anybody coming in here tomorrow. We need to take care of our business and do whatever we can to get our three points. Sure, Mankato is a longtime rival and good match-up for us. We always have entertaining games with them. Obviously, this year they are in great form - we have our hands full, there's no doubt about it." - Coach Greg Cane, on if revenge for last season's NSIC Championship game plays any part in hyping the Bulldogs for a match-up against No. 1 on Friday night

KICKS FOR A CAUSE
Bulldog seniors have each chosen an organization and cause to promote at home games throughout the season. Friday night, UMD will welcome the American Cancer Society while Sunday afternoon will bring Mentor Duluth to campus. For more details on Kicks for a Cause, click here.

The Bulldogs and Mavericks will take to the turf at Malosky Stadium at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening.
