Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth extended its shutout streak to three matches as the Bulldogs edged Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Northern State University 1-0 in Aberdeen, South Dakota on Sunday afternoon.
UMD (3-3-0, 3-0-0 NSIC) pulls even to .500 and has not allowed a goal in its last 292 minutes of game action. Northern State (2-4-0, 1-2-0 NSIC) has now dropped two in a row in league play.
HIGHLIGHTS• Senior forward
Maureen Stormont scored a goal in her fourth straight match for UMD. Her 12 points in 2014 bring her to 105 for her career, tying Beth Byers ('99) for the second-most in a Bulldog career. Jen Warrick Reierson ('01) tops the list at 125 in her four years at UMD. Stormont's 44th career score also brings her to eight back of Warrick for the most career goals among Bulldogs.
• Junior forward
Sheridan Reiners also has a point in four straight games for UMD, assisting Stormont for the third time already this season. Reiners had three shots on the day, but Stormont carried much of the load with 13.
• Senior goalkeeper
Marissa Rosa now has shutouts in back-to-back starts the past two Sundays. She needed just one save on the afternoon as UMD's defense allowed two shots on goal all weekend.
Stormont got the Bulldogs on the board just before the seven-minute mark of the opening frame, and UMD held tough the rest of the way. The Bulldogs once again proved the best defense is a strong offense as UMD out-shot Northern State 27-0 in the first half, and 48-3 overall, limiting any chance the Wolves had at tying up the score. Northern State junior goalkeeper Brittany Tietz did her part to keep her team in the game, making 11 saves on the afternoon. Junior forward Alyssa Wilde had a pair of shots off the bench to lead the Wolves.
UP NEXTUMD continues on the road next weekend, as the Bulldogs travel to Upper Iowa University and No. 10 Winona State University on Saturday and Sunday. Opening kick for UMD's match with the Peacocks is set for 1:00 p.m. in Fayette, Iowa.
