Box Score 2 Update: Sept. 8, 2014 - Michigan Tech University has announced the Keweenaw Classic All-Tournament team, and a pair of Bulldogs made the mark, as senior Maddy Siroin and junior Ashley Hinsch each were selected by the coaches and sports information directors.The University of Minnesota Duluth took early leads and never looked back, collecting a pair of three-set sweeps to close out the weekend at the Keweenaw Classic in Houghton, Michigan hosted by Michigan Tech University on Saturday.
The No. 3 Bulldogs (4-0) downed Lake Superior State University (1-4) in 47 minutes in their matinee, winning 25-9, 25-7, and 25-8. In the evening set, UMD took down the host Huskies (1-4) to the tune of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-11.
HIGHLIGHTS• Sophomore
Taylor Wissbroecker had a career day in match one, throwing down 12 kills to go with five service aces and a pair of block assists. Senior middle blocker
Jessica Zieman also had a strong game with 11 kills and four block assists. Nine Bulldogs had at least one kill against Lake Superior State, and UMD hit .557 in the match.

Allison Olley made her debut with four kills and a block assist against the Lakers, along with freshman outside hitter
Megan Norby, who had one kill, and freshman setter
Sarah Heesacker, who had her first collegiate dig.
• Junior outside hitter
Mariah Scharf led the way with 17 kills in game two, with sophomore middle blocker
Sydnie Mauch breaking double digits with 11 as well. Zieman had another strong showing with six in the second match. Junior setter
Ashley Hinsch collected 78 assists between the two matches, including 42 against Tech.
• Senior libero
Julie Rainey had 20 saves against Michigan Tech for 25 on the day.
RECAPSThe first match of the day saw just four tie scores and a pair of lead changes, with the Bulldogs leading all the way in the second and third sets. UMD had just six errors on 61 swings, compared to 21 errors compared to just 13 kills by Lake Superior State (good for a -.116). Sophomore Jenna Kilmer led the way with four kills, while sophomore Janelle Nagy and freshman Madison Castle each had five assists. The Lakers had just 12 digs, with Nagy tying for the team lead with four.
UMD's second match was another quick one running just over an hour on the clock. The Bulldogs never trailed against Michigan Tech with the highest high score of any game being 9-9 through the first two sets before the Huskies made it tight late in the third, tying the score at 19-all. Four kills by Scharf ended the match in the Bulldogs favor as they moved to 4-0 on the tournament.
A 12-member All-Tournament Team was announced Monday morning, and not surprisingly, UMD was well-represented by senior rightside hitter Maddy Sirion and junior setter
Ashley Hinsch. Hinsch finished the weekend with 149 assists, while Siroin had a team-best .371 attack percentage and 33 kills in 10 sets played.
UP NEXTThe Bulldogs will travel to Denver for the Colorado Premier Challenge hosted by Metro State University. They will play two matches on both Friday and Saturday and are set to face a pair of ranked foes in No. 2 Tampa University and No. 4 Brigham Young University-Hawaii.
