Box Score The No. 1 University of Minnesota came into the weekend with the nation's top offense, and the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team found out Saturday afternoon just how potent that offense could be.
The Bulldogs fell 6-1 to the Gophers at Ridder Arena after Minnesota used four goals to blow open the game in the second period. The UMD loss secures the Western Collegiate Hockey Association sweep for the the Gophers, who stay unbeaten at 8-0 this season, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-6-0 overall and 2-3-0 in WCHA play.
Minnesota struck first, with the lone goal at 4:37 of the opening period. After holding the Gophers to just 10 shots in the first period, UMD trailed just 1-0 when the second period began. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Minnesota scored twice in the first six minutes of the second stanza, including a power play goal at 5:49, and the Gophers lead was 3-0 before UMD finally got on the board at 12:29 in the second.

Catherine Daoust scored her second goal of the year (assisted by
Michela Cava) to cut the Gopher lead to 3-1, but Minnesota found the net again at 15:22 and recorded another power play goal with 25 seconds left to take a 5-1 lead into the second intermission.
Minnesota managed just one goal in the third period to seal the game at 6-1, and while the Gophers outshot the Bulldogs 29-17, UMD held Minnesota to 19 shots less than it had Friday night.

Maddie Rooney played the first 40 minutes for UMD, recording 14 saves on 19 shots faced. Senior netminder
Kayla Black played the final 20 minutes, stopping nine of the 10 shots she faced. Minnesota was 2-of-3 of its power play and held UMD scoreless in its three extra skater attempts.
The Bulldogs will take two weeks off from outside competition before hosting the No. 2/3 University of Wisconsin at AMSOIL Arena on Nov. 13-14. Both games will get underway at 3:07 p.m.
