The University of Minnesota Duluth was recognized for its efforts in the classroom, earning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 school year.
The NSCAA Team Academic Award was created to recognize student athletes' commitment to excellence in the classroom. For a team to be considered for the award, it must have a composite team grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all team members who appear on the official NCAA, NAIA or junior college roster forms for the fall season. A total of 892 soccer teams (315 men, 577 women) excelled in the classroom to be honored, with 221 schools receiving honors for both their men and women's teams.
UMD was well above the 3.0 requirement - posting a 3.31 team grade point average for the 2015-16 year.
The Bulldogs will be in action this weekend at Malosky Stadium as they host Wayne State University on Friday night. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
