In its 2016 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference debuts, the University of Minnesota Duluth suffered back-to-back setbacks to the University of Mary and Minnesota State University-Moorhead over the weekend at the Capital Racquet and Fitness Center in Bismarck, N.D.
The Bulldogs were bested by Mary 6-3 Saturday afternoon and then suffered an 8-1 setback to Minnesota State-Moorhead the following morning. UMD (0-4 overall), which was swept in all three doubles matches against both the Marauders and Dragons, got a pair of wins at No. 3 singles from junior co-captain

Jillian Klasen (No. 4) and freshman
Rachel Menke (No. 6) each prevailed in their singles matches with Mary (1-2 overall and in the NSIC).
Against Minnesota State-Moorhead (4-0 overall; 3-0 NSIC), sophomore
Shelby Benkofske lost a in three-set super tiebreaker (5-7, 6-4, 9-11) at No. 2 singles to Jade Goodyear-Anderson, who is now 4-0 on the year.
UMD will host Bethel University in a non-conference match this Friday night at the Arrowhead Tennis Center in Duluth before hitting the road for NSIC clashes with Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota-Crookston Saturday in Bemidji, Minn.
