Had it not been for one competitor,
Emilee Trost posted what would have been a national mile-run record at the NCAA II Indoor Track and Field Championship late Saturday afternoon in Pittsburg, Kan.
The University of Minnesota Duluth sophomore clocked in at 4:37.57 -- nearly four seconds better than her previous school-record mark -- but had to settle for second place behind Hillsdale University's Erin Oren, who won the event with a time 4:35.48. Trost's teammate, senior
Hannah Olson, who was making her third straight mile run appearance at the NCAA II indoors, placed eighth (4:54.82) to also secure All-American honors for a second time.
Those two, who helped lead the Bulldogs' distance medley relay team to a second-place finish Friday night, joined junior
Breanna Colbenson in the 3,000-meter run 90 minutes later, going 11th (Trost; 9:46:58), 17th (Colbenson; 9:52.44) and 20th (Olson; 10:12.78).
