UMD REBOUNDS WITH SWEEP OVER SIOUX FALLS

The University of Minnesota Duluth got back to its sweeping ways as it captured its 13th three-set win of the season after disposing the University of Sioux Falls 25-21, 25-21, 25-13. The No. 5 Bulldogs reestablished the offense it lacked the previous night hitting .356 against the Cougars to win its ninth Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match. Four Bulldogs -- senior right side hitter Sarah Kelly, junior outside hitter Hanna Meyer, senior outside hitter Makenzie Morgen, and junior middle blocker Abby Thor -- attacked above a .375 clip.Thor guided UMD in the hitting department racking up six kills on 12 attempts with no errors. Morgen paced all hitters with 14 kills while Berg finished second on the club two shy of Morgen's total. Junior setter Emily Torve dialed up 44 assists, which tied her season-high three-set total. Junior libero Keena Seiffert scooped up a match-high 17 digs. Kelly notched four total blocks to lead all players.

The Bulldogs received 11 combined kills from Berg and Morgen to open the first set. The following set, UMD got off to a slow start but found a way to capture the set. Sioux Falls let UMD tied the set score on three occasions before running out getting out to a 19-17 lead. The Bulldogs would score the next two points to tie it and then took the lead on back-to-back kills by Thor. The Cougars would committ three errors and let UMD finish the second set with the last four points.

The third and final set was dominated by UMD. The Bulldogs scored 11 of the first 14 points in the set back by a trio of thunderous kills by Kelly and Berg. Sioux Falls trailed by as many as 12 points twice in the set and were finished off by Morgen when she hammered home the match-clinching kill.

Bria Barfnecht led Sioux Falls with 13 kills and was the lone bright spot for the Cougars, who ended up hitting .200. Barfnecht and Kasandra Springer each had six digs apiece as Sioux Falls had 26 digs for the match.
