The University of Minnesota Duluth is ready for the regular season to begin. The Bulldogs won came away with 86-68 victory over Bethel University on Saturday afternoon at Romano Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs shot 46 percent from the floor while the Royals shot 38 percent. UMD shot 38 percent from three and made 77 percent of its free throws. Bethel hit only two of its 12 three-point attempts and was 60 percent from the charity stripe.
The Royals built an nine-point lead with 4:31 left in the second before the Bulldogs took over. UMD cut the lead down to one at the half and immediately scored on the opening possession and never trailed again. The Bulldogs would outscore Bethel 49-30 in the second half and led by as many as 20 points.Â
Taite Anderson had 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead all players and help the Royals put up a fight. Hannah Johnson had 19 points and eight rebounds for Bethel as the duo scored 68 percent of the team's production.Â
UMD, which won all three warmup games before the start of the regular season this coming Tuesday, had five players reach double figures. Senior guard
Sammy Kozlowski compiled 18 points to lead the Bulldogs. Freshman forward
Brooke Olson racked up 16 points and a team high nine rebounds. Junior forward
Katie Stark, sophomore forward
Sarah Grow and freshman
Maesyn Thiesen all had 10 points in the win.
Olsen and Kozlowski both corralled three steals for UMD as it  had 11 steals and forced 22 Bethel turnovers.Â
UMD will start the regular season at Northern Michigan University Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m. (CST).
