KOZLOWSKI JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB BUT UMD FALLS TO MICHIGAN TECH

Senior guard Sammy Kozlowski joined a prestigious club this afternoon in the University of Minnesota Duluth's 66-57 setback to Michigan Tech University. Kozlowski became the 21st player in program history to reach 1,000 points joining the likes of Dina Kargas, Lindsey Dietz, Katrina Newman, Jheri Booker and most recently Taylor Meyer to name a few.

The native New Berlin, Wis., needed 11 points and accomplished that mark in third quarter on a jumper from the free-throw line. She replaces Meyer, who achieved the feat in the 2016-17 season, as the latest Bulldog to hit the mark. Kozlowski led UMD with a team-high 16 points but it wasn't enough to spark the Bulldogs to the win column on Wednesday at Romano Gymnasium.

The Huskies (7-5) didn't fall victim to the stymie defense of UMD. The Bulldogs (5-3) came into today's contest holding opponents under 40 points in consecutive outings. Michigan Tech shot lights out in the opening half as they amassed 41 points in the first half. The Bulldogs busted out to an early 6-0 lead but the Huskies stormed back to end the half on a 41-14 run thanks to their hot shooting and solid zone defense. They shot a red-hot 60.7 percent and 54.5 percent from three in the half.

Michigan Tech dominated the second quarter as it held UMD to seven points on 2-of-13 shooting in what has been normally the Bulldogs' best quarter in terms of scoring margin (111-71 in the 2nd coming into today). UMD had its first basket of the second quarter with 3:28 remaining. A few minutes later, Slone Zenner knocked down one of the nine Husky three-points to give Michigan Tech its biggest lead of the game at 39-17.

UMD came out of the second half and chipped the deficit back to 11 midway through the third before the Huskies went on a 10-4 run to push the advantage back to 17 heading to the fourth. The Bulldogs continued to mount a comeback and had the lead down to a single possession after sophomore forward Sarah Grow had a putback layup off a miss to get UMD within 57-54. Michigan Tech responded with their ninth three-pointer of the game and the dagger. Cassidy Trotter found Ellie Mackay in the right corner and she delivered a three-point shot that ended the comeback bid.

Today marked the second time all season the Bulldogs had three scorers in double figures (St. Cloud State, Dec. 1). Grow, the reigning Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division Player of the Week, finished with a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the season. Grow also rejected three shots as she continues the pace the NSIC in blocked shots per game. Sophomore guard Ann Simonet added 10 points and dished out three assists. Hannah Hobson had a game-high 19 points off the bench and Abbie Botz contributed 16 points for the Huskies.

The Bulldogs return to conference play on Dec. 30 against St. Cloud State University at Romano.
