NO. 6 BULLDOGS LAY THE SMACKDOWN ON GOLDEN EAGLES WITH QUICK SWEEP

The University of Minnesota Duluth rolled to a 3-0 sweep against the University of Minnesota Crookston at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn., to stretch its winning streak to four games.

The AMSOIL Arena experience left no bitter aftertaste as the No. 6 Bulldogs won in straight sets (25-14, 25-21, 25-9) to make it 13 sweeps in a row over the Golden Eagles. UMD, which has won all 26 meetings, has not dropped the last 40 sets against Minnesota Crookston.

The Golden Eagles had difficulties finding ways to terminate on the offensive end. The Bulldogs were able to filter the attacks to their back row defenders and hold Minnesota Crookston to a .086 hitting percentage. UMD has been stonewalling opposing attacks in the first 10 matches of the season. No team has hit better than .194 in any match as it showed its strength once again. Junior defensive specialist Keena Seiffert compiled 14 digs in the match to lead all players while freshman defensive specialist Sydney Lanoue scooped up 13 digs, one short of her collegiate high.

Sophomore outside hitter Kate Berg led the Bulldogs in kills. Berg brewed up 12 kills and hit a roasting .526 from the floor. Senior outside hitter Makenzie Morgen and senior right side hitter Sarah Kelly each  posted 11 kills. Junior middle blocker Abby Thor took control of her matchup downing eight of her 11 swings.

The Bulldogs shredded the Golden Eagles as they hit .343 for the match including a whopping .567 in the final set. Berg had seven kills alone in that set and Thor went a perfect 3-for-3. Thor had all three kills in that third set in part of 9-1 run that propelled UMD to a 11-4 advantage. Kelly had three kills in the Bulldogs' final 10-1 run of the third. Junior middle blocker Bailey Ramich added the whip cream assisting on the final two blocks to close the match.

UMD returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 11 against St. Cloud State University for another NSIC road assignment.
