BULLDOGS FIGHT HARD IN TIE AGAINST UPPER IOWA PEACOCKS

The University of Minnesota Duluth took on the Upper Iowa Peacocks on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs and Peacocks were unable to decide a victor as the teams played out regulation and two overtimes to a tie. UMD now carries a 4-7-2 record (2-6-2 in the NSIC) on the season.

The game started on a slow note, with both teams playing hard but not finding much for offense. That changed late in the first half, when junior forward Kara Pascarella hammered one home in the 34th minute. Upper Iowa's goalkeeper Natalie Rudrud ran out of her net to try and clear a loose ball. The ball then popped out to Pascarella  who was just outside the box. She ripped the ball into an open net on the left side. The Bulldogs finished the half with six shots (four on net) while sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Grenz finished the half with one save.

The second half saw much more action as both teams again fought hard, but shots were coming quicker. The Peacocks would find the back of the net early in the half, scoring just nine minutes in. Katie Samuels put a ball past UMD's defense to Aimee Kemper, who snuck one by on Grenz to tie things at one a side. Grenz finished the half with three saves and the Bulldogs took two shots in the half.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net through the rest of regulation and two overtimes. Each team would ring one of a post, with senior midfielder Emily Hinz putting one off the crossbar inside the box in the second overtime with just two minutes to play.

UMD would finish the day taking 16 shots (nine on net), while the Peacocks took 10 shots (eight put on net). Grenz would finish with seven saves and one goal against. Pascarella would score the lone goal for the Bulldogs, putting in her first goal with UMD. Sophomore midfielder Ebelin Morales Benites and senior forward Logan Nash would finish with three shots each. Hinz would finish with two shots.

The Bulldogs are back in action next week when they take to the road to square off against Southwest Minnesota State (Oct. 25) and Sioux Falls (Oct. 27).
