University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey juniors
Sydney Brodt and
Maddie Rooney were officially named Friday to the U.S. National Team roster that will compete at the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship in Espoo, Finland April 4-14.
Both Brodt and Rooney suited up for the U.S. side this past fall in the Four Nations Cup, and were both invited to the USA Hockey Winter Training Camp in mid Decemeber that was held in Plymouth, Mich.
Â
Brodt, a forward,  was imperative in the U.S. Four Nations Cup run, registering the fifth most points (five) in the entire tournament, and tied for first overall with three goals in four games. The North Oaks, Minn. native notched a point in all four U.S. games, including both a goal and an assist in her first official U.S. National Team skate on Nov. 6 against Finland (a 5-1 win). Rooney's sole action came on Nov. 6, where the Olympic hero posted nine saves on 10 shots during the contest.
In 32 games, Brodt has eight goals and 11 assists for the Bulldogs so far this season. Rooney owns 890 saves this season -- the fifth most by a UMD goaltender in a single season and just seven saves shy of the fourth spot. Those 890 saves are the fourth most by any goaltender in the NCAA this season.
Brodt, Rooney and the rest of the Bulldogs will host Bemidji State University today in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's quarterfinal round of the playoffs. Puck will drop on game one at 2:07 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.
