The University of Minnesota Duluth swept the field and improve to 7-1 on the year, as they beat Lake Superior State in straight sets 25-18, 25-13, 25-11. The Bulldogs played a total of 12 sets in the St. Cloud Invite.

UMD finished with a total of 12 blocks as a team, out pacing the Lakers, who finished with only five. The Bulldogs finished clipping at a .207 percent, while Lake Superior finished with a .027.

The first set saw UMD start strong, going on a 12-2 run. The Lakers would be able to compose themselves and were able to go on a 4-1 rally. The Bulldogs stood their ground, however, and were able to fend off the push by Lake Superior State. The two teams would go back and forth, trading points until the Lakers struck five off in a row. UMD would be able to catch themselves, eventually going on a 4-1 rally themselves and closing out the first set.

In the second, the Bulldogs again got off to a hot start, going up 8-2 in the opening points. UMD would go on a five-point run, putting themselves up 13-5, where LSSU would take a timeout. The Lakers were able to rattle off a 4-2 run and bringing the score to 15-11. The Bulldogs would take a timeout and, in doing so, found their offense in a set finishing 9-2 rally.

The third set started as a back and forth battle, with the two teams trading blows in the opening points. UMD would find their footing after going down 4-2 early, going on a 10-2 rally bringing the score to 12-6. The Bulldogs didn't look back from there, sustaining the lead and finishing the sweep.

Brianna Weyenberg would see her first collegiate action of her career, recording her first block as well collect her first kill shortly after. She would finish the match with three blocks and one kill. Sophomore outside hitter
Brooke Scheurer would see her first action of the season and was able to chip in three kills as well. Junior outside hitter
Kate Berg would finish with 11 kills with a .333 clip. Senior middle blocker
Abby Thor hammered seven kills home, collecting eight blocks along the way. Junior middle blocker

Emily Balts would finish with 31 assists and one kill.

The Bulldogs start their conference portion of the season, hosting Upper Iowa on Sept. 20 and Winona State on Sept. 21, both at Romano Gymnasium in Duluth, Minn.
