NO. 4 BULLDOGS TAKE A BITE OUT OF NO. 25 PEACOCKS IN SWEEP

The University of Minnesota Duluth swept the No. 25 Upper Iowa Peacocks 25-20, 25-21, 25-20 and improve t 8-1 on the year.
 
The Bulldogs finished with 53 kills on the evening, outpacing the Peacocks by 23. UMD finished hitting at a .254 clip, while Upper Iowa finished with a .202 clip.
 
The first set started with the Bulldogs taking an early lead and staying ahead throughout the set.  The Peacocks kept things close, keeping the score within four points four points for a majority of the set. The Bulldogs would end up going a 9-2 run, taking the score to 21-14. The teams would trade the next few points and UMD would eventually take the first set 25-20.
 
In the second set saw the Bulldogs go down early on, starting off 3-4. UMD would take the lead shortly thereafter, and would have the only lead change the set saw. For the remainder of the set, it was closely contested, with the Bulldogs being the only ones to score more than three points in a row. The set would finish with UMD on top 25-21.
 
The third saw more of the same teeter-tottering in the beginning, the Bulldogs taking the lead early 6-4. The Peacocks would give UMD a fight, keeping things tight and never straying more than four points in the next volley's. The Bulldogs would rattle off a rally of 8-3 and take a commanding lead 16-9. UMD wouldn't look back, finishing out the set 25-20, and sweeping the match.
 
Senior setter Emily Balts had 42 assists in the match, as well as nine digs and four kills. Junior outside hitter Kate Berg had a match high 15 kills, she would add 4 digs and a block as well. Sophomore outside hitter Meredith Sutton finished the day with 11 kills and tacking on a solo block as well. Senior middle blocker Abby Thor finished the evening with two blocks, as well as hammering home nine kills in the process.
 
The No. 4 Bulldogs take on the Winona State Warriors tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at Romano Gym.
