The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team battled through 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of two overtimes to get a 0-0 draw against the University of Sioux Falls Cougars tonight at Malosky Stadium.
Despite the scoreline, the Bulldogs dominated the run of play all game, putting up 20 shots over the course of the game, 13 of which were on goal. By contrast, the Cougars were only able to put up seven shots on goal all game and eight shots overall. Over the course of 110 minutes, Lauren Singstock, Julia Osborne, Jackie Jares, and Sarah Stange all put up three shots, with Stange and Osborne seeing all three of their shots go on target.
In total, 12 different Bulldogs recorded shots tonight. In addition to the four players who attempted to get the ball into the back of the net three times, Mandy Conkel, Nora Griffin-Wiesner, Victoria Thorson, Holly Kaboord, Baamlak Haugen, Anna Tobias, Erin Walpole, and Emilia McGiffert each tallied a shot tonight. The Cougars' goalie was instrumental in keeping the game knotted at 0-0 as UMD tried to get one past her.
Sophia Grenz, Shannon King, Julia Osborne, and Eliana Marciano never left the field in tonight's game, backstopping the Bulldogs through four periods of play. Grenz played an excellent game and saved seven shots over the course of the game.
The Bulldogs will be back at Malosky Stadium on Sunday to play host to Southwest Minnesota State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm.
