The University of Minnesota Duluth lost their first game of the season to St. Cloud State University 60-49. That loss also broke a 30-game home win streak as well. UMD falls to 9-1 and 8-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. SCSU improves to 10-3 overall (7-2 NSIC).
UMD started off the game a little slow on the offensive end, shooting 40% (4-10) from the field in the first quarter and went into the first break down one. The second quarter looked a lot different for the Huskies offense as they shot 50% from the field and went 2-2 on 3 pointers after they shot just 21.1% from the field in the first quarter. UMD's offense on the other hand remained stagnant as they went into halftime trailing 34-20.
The Bulldogs came out of halftime with great intensity, but couldn't get much to go their way as they shot just 39.8% from the field and went 1-8 on 3-pointers. SCSU never let the game get within 10 points in the second half.
Besides the loss, junior forward
Brooke Olson scored her 1,000th career point after a layup early in the first quarter.
Overall, UMD shot 40% (18-45), 16.7% (2-12) on 3-pointers, had 10 team blocks and were out-rebounded 40-22. The Huskies shot 37.3% (22-59) from the field, 54.5% (6-11) on 3-pointers and had 16 second chance points compared to UMD's 0.
Olson led the team in scoring with 22 points and four rebounds. Senior forward
Sarah Grow (who scored her 1000th point in the game prior) finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and five blocks and sophomore guard
Taytum Rhoades finished with nine points, three rebounds and four assists.
The Bulldogs will play SCSU again tomorrow night (Feb. 20) in their last game of the regular season at 4pm in Romano Gymnasium.
