Today the University of Minnesota Duluth Women's Track and Field team wrapped up their NSIC competition with the culmination of the conference season at the 2021 NSIC outdoor track and field championships. The fifteen team competition was hosted by the University of Minnesota Duluth at Malosky Stadium over the past three days.
Today marked day three of competition and the championship races in multiple events. Here are the notable performances for the Bulldogs.
Lindsay Maruska placed second in the triple jump leaping a distance of 12.13 meters or 39 feet nine inches and three quarters of an inch. That mark is NCAA II provisional qualifying worthy and also slots her in the top 25 in all of NCAA DII. Maruska secures eight team points for the Bulldogs with a second place finish. Maruska's mark of 39-9.75 overtakes Liz Brunner's mark of 39-1.75 set in the 2017 NSIC outdoors. Maruska is now the Women's Track and Field program record holder in the triple jump.
Anna Muellner placed second in the 400-meter dash posting a time of 55.39 seconds. That time is an NCAA II provisional qualifying time and ranks her 12th overall in NCAA II. With a second place finish Muellner secures eight points for the Bulldogs. Muellner's time of 55.39 overtakes Andrea Vake's time of 55.43 at the NSIC Outdoors from 2004. Muellner is now the Women's Track and Field program record holder in the 400-meter dash.
A trio of Bulldogs finished second, third and fourth in the 800-meter run. Haleigh Reindl finished second running a time of 2:09.22, that time is an NCAA II provisional qualifier and slots her into the eighth fastest time in the 800-meters. Isabelle Brezinka finished third in the event running a time of 2:12.50. Elizabeth Kyes finished fourth in the event with a time of 2:14.25. Reindl secured eight team points, Brezinka secured six and Kyes secured four for the Bulldogs.
Madison Biebel placed second in the 400-meter hurdles posting a time of 1:01.30. That time is a provisional qualifying mark for NCAA DII. Biebel grabbed eight team points for the Bulldogs in the event. Nicole Schneider also placed in the 400-meter hurdles coming in eighth place running a time of 1:03.68.
Both the UMD 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams placed in their respective team events. The 4X100 team of Hannah Lamkin, Lindsay Maruska, Anna Muellner, and Allison Carpenter finished seventh running a time of 48.15 seconds and grabbing two team points for UMD. The 4x400 relay team of Anna Muellner, Madison Biebel, Isabelle Brezinka, and Haleigh Reindl finished second running a time of 3:50.61 and just missing the NCAA II provisional qualifying mark. The second place finish grabbed UMD eight team points.
Overall UMD finished sixth in the team rankings accumulating 54 points over the three day event out of 15 teams. U-Mary took first place with 174 points, followed by Minnesota State 157 points, Augustana 90 points, Winona State 69.5 points, Northern State 67 points, UMD 54 points, Sioux Falls 49 points, Bemidji State 34.5 points, St. Cloud 28.5 points, Wayne State 28 points, Concordia St. Paul 26 points, Southwest Minnesota State 17 points, MSU-Moorhead 14 points, Upper Iowa 6 points, and Minot State 2.5 points.
