Today the University of Minnesota Duluth Baseball team concluded their 2021 season as they played game three of their weekend series with the Bemidji State Beavers from Bemidji, Minn. The Bulldogs dropped the rollercoaster contest 11-10 as they were not able to finish the ninth inning comeback. With the loss the Bulldogs finish the season 17-23 (14-20) in the NSIC.
 
Just as the first two games of the weekend started, it was the beavers who jumped out to the early lead scoring four in the bottom of the first inning off of UMD starting pitcher Russ Tanner. True to form the Bulldogs would bounce right back, scoring six runs in their half of the second thanks to an Alex Watterman solo shot, RBI hits from Trevor Gustafson, Henry George and a 2RBI base knock from Anders Brown giving the Bulldogs a short lived 6-4 advantage. The Beavers would answer with four runs in the bottom of the third and one run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-6 lead. UMD would score two runs in the sixth and one run in the top of the eighth to knot things at eight with Gustafson and George again recording RBI's. The Beavers would take the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth as they knocked a two-run homer over the left field wall and took a 11-9 lead. The Bulldogs would try to answer in the top of the ninth, but an Alex Watterman RBI single would be all they could muster as they fell 11-10.

With the loss the Bulldogs are officially eliminated from playoff contention on the 2021 season. Having finished the season winning 7 of their last ten games the Bulldogs just missed the 2021 NSIC tournament. UMD will look to take that momentum into the offseason and bring it into focus for next season in the spring of 2022.
