The University of Minnesota Duluth men's track & field squad made the trip south to Minneapolis, Minn. for day two of the Jack Johnson Classic on Saturday afternoon. While competing against several D1 opponents, the Bulldogs finished the event with eight top five finishes, including a first and second place finish in the 3000 meter run.
"Our men continue to be led by our middle distance/distance group," said Head Coach
Karly Brautigam. "We had a lot of PRs today in the sprints and showed some really solid consistency in our technical events. These guys just compete well and are hungry for more during the second half of the indoor season."
On the track,
Nick Jacobson and
Matthew Trutna finished one and two in the men's 3000 meter run. Jacobson posted a time of 8:28.61, while Trutna finished just behind with a mark of 8:34.09.Â
Christian Leonard's time of 1:55.88 in the men's 800 meter run was good enough for second-place on the leaderboard.Â
Kyle Kucera secured multiple top five finishes in the 200 meter dash and the men's 1000 meter run. Kucera took fifth in the 200m dash with a mark of 23.29, while also securing fifth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:57.97.
In the field, a third-place finish was earned by
Avery Hunt in the long jump, after the senior tallied a mark of 6.60m. In the men's high jump, freshman
Luke Oberleitner turned in a distance of 1.90m to take home fourth-place in the event. In addition to his work on the track, Kucera also finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.70m.Â
