The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team is ready to host a pair of big time NSIC matchups with Concordia St. Paul set to kick off on Friday and #19 Minnesota State on Sunday.
UMD is coming off a dominant win over Minnesota Crookston and look to carry their momentum into a competitive weekend at home. The Golden Bears are currently sitting in fourth place in the NSIC standing with a conference record of 5-2-1. CSP is also coming off a dominant win over Upper Iowa who they beat 5-1. Concordia's defense will be a challenge for the Bulldog offense this weekend, as Concordia's opponents have not scored more than two goals against them this season.
The Bulldogs are 18-2-3 against the Golden Bears, the most recent win coming from last season when the Bulldogs beat CSP 2-1. Before last season, the Bulldogs had not beaten the Bears since 2014. UMD will look to extend their win streak against the bears on Friday.
Minnesota Duluth will face another tough matchup on Sunday when they take on #19 Minnesota State. The Mavericks are sitting at number one in the NSIC with an impressive conference record of 6-0-2. They are first in the conference in goals scored with 35 (an average of 3.2 goals per game).
The matchup with the Mavericks has historically been a challenge for the Bulldogs going 8-23-4 against them. The last win for the bulldogs against the Mavericks came in 2011 when they came away with the 1-0 victory at home.
The Bulldogs will look to use their recent momentum to continue their offense when they take on the Mavericks. Three different Bulldogs scored against Minnesota Crookston: Jackie Jares, Eliana Marciano, and freshman Myra Moorjani who scored her first of the season. It was an all-out team effort that the Bulldogs hope to continue in their matches this weekend.
Kickoff for the action packed weekend will start on Friday Oct. 7 at 6:00 p.m. at Malosky Stadium.
