As the Bulldogs fought the Dragons, Head Coach
Jessica Worden was extremely proud of the team and how they started off the day in their doubles matches.
"Today was an amazing win for the team. We had four different singles matches go into 3 sets. The team played incredibly sound and mentally tough from start to finish. To start the match off with the doubles point was huge! One and three doubles were unstoppable! It was the first time Amanda and Olivia played together this season."
Coach Worden continued to praise the teams hard work on the court.
"Shay reigned in her first victory at number one singles today in three sets. She rallied back in the second set with unbelievable determination. I am so proud of her ability to grind the entire time today! Olivia brought in the victory this evening with the final match on court. The team erupted in support once she was able to seal the deal. She won the final point with an incredible lob over her opponents head that was untouchable. Abby battled not only her opponents but injuries as well. Her determination to put one more ball back every time is something to admire. In the second set change over at 3-4, she said "I am going to make her work for it." Next change over she was up 5-4 and didn't look back until she won the match!"
After the close battle the team had, they were ecstatic with the outcome and a couple players provided us with the some awe-inspiring words.
"Today rocked! After a 4-5 hour car ride we were all energized and ready to play! Abby had the greatest grit factor today and it definitely effected my game in the best way. She fought that second set and went to a third against a tough competitor. Her MENTAL game was absolutely rad to watch. The team as a whole all had such great mental stamina! I'm pumped for the matches tomorrow!
Go DOGGOS," said freshman
Olivia Honsey.
"I'm so proud of how everyone played today. We came out missing some crucial players in our lineup due to covid but fought through and pulled out a great win! Go Dogs!" said sophomore
Abby Johnson.
After traveling to Moorhead today, the team will travel another 3 hours west to Bismarck, N.D. and take on the University of Mary tomorrow (February 20th) at 9 A.M.
