PREVIEW: UMD HOCKEY HOSTS MIAMI FOR LAST REGULAR SEASON HOME SERIES

THE MATCHUP The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs are set to face-off with the Miami University RedHawks for their last regular season home game. The last time the Bulldogs played a series against the Redhawks was during the 2021-22 season. UMD split the series, after a 3-1 win Friday they were shutout 4-0 the next night. Since 2009 when the teams first met, UMD holds the all-time record against Miami, 28-6-3.  
LAST TIME OUT The Bulldogs are coming back from their trip to Denver, where they split the series. UMD fell Friday after a 6-2 contest, but bounced back with a big 6-5 win Saturday. During the series finale, the Bulldogs blew past Denver with three unanswered goals in the second period. Although Denver scored three more in the third, Ben Steeves notched the teams sixth goal on the power play which was ultimately the game winner. During the six goal game, five different Bulldogs scored, and four a multi-point night. Wyatt Kaiser had four points over one goal and three assists and Isaac Howard had three assists. 
UMD IN CONFERENCE PLAY With a split of No. 3 Denver, UMD picked up three conference points. With now 26 points, the Bulldogs hold the fifth place spot. In NCHC play, UMD is 8-12-0. 
BULLDOGS ON THE PP With three power play goals against the Pioneers, UMD now has the nation's third-best power play percentage. With 26 goals, after only 98 opportunities, the Bulldogs have a conversion percentage of .265. 
OLSON IS HEATING UP In the last six games, Quinn Olson has recorded six points, with three goals and three assists. The senior is currently the team assist leader with a total of 14.   
YOUNG GUNS This year's freshman class has proven to Bulldog Country what they can do. During last weekend's contests the Bulldogs recorded 23 points. Of the 23, 10 of them were produced by six freshmen. The rookies to notch points include Ben Steeves, Isaac Howard, Aiden Dubinsky, Luke Johnson, Jack Smith, and Joey Pierce.  
THAT'S A PLUS Freshman Aiden Dubinsky leads the plus minus category for the Bulldogs with a +4 rating. 
GRAB THE PUCK Freshman Luke Johnson recorded his first collegiate goal last weekend in Denver. With two assists earlier in the season, Johnson now has three points.  
STEEVES IS ON A ROLL Freshman Ben Steeves continues to lead the team in multiple categories including goals, power play goals, game winning goals, points, and shots on goal. Over the last seven games, Steeves has tallied 10 points. And with his .68 goals per game average, Steeves is ranked fourth in the country and second in the NCHC.  Of his 19 total goals, 11 have come on the power play, ranking him first in the nation. 
MAKE THAT FOUR After a three point weekend in Denver, Steeves earned the NCHC Rookie of the Week honors, for the fourth time this season. 
HOME SWEET HOME The Bulldogs will host Miami this weekend with a 9-8 record on home ice. 
FRIENDLY FACES Fifth year defenseman Derek Daschke will host some familiar faces in Duluth this weekend. The transfer from Miami, and previous Redhawks captain, will play his former team of four years for the first time since coming to UMD. 
POTENTIAL ON THE POWER PLAY With the nation's third-best power play percentage, the Bulldogs can look to find some scoring opportunities this upcoming weekend. Miami is ranked sixth in the nation and first in the NCHC for penalty minutes per game and ranked 48th for their .772 penalty kill percentage. The Redhawks have been on the penalty kill 145 times this season while allowing 33 power play goals. 
MU GOALTENDING The Redhawks have started Ludvig Persson between the pipes in 26 games. While in the crease Persson has posted a 7-15-4 record. He averages 3.52 goals against and has a save percentage of .893. The junior goaltender has made 742 saves and allowed 89 goals, 25 of which were allowed while the opponents have the man-advantage. 
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS Miami University will enter this weekend with an overall record of 7-19-4 and are 2-15-3 in conference play. Earlier in the season, the Redhawks had a big win against St. Cloud, shutting them out 5-0. Miami is coming off their series with Omaha where they were swept on home ice. The Redhawks finished both games with a close margin though. Friday's contest ended 3-1 and Saturday they lost in overtime 3-2. Junior Matthew Barbolini is the team leader in goals, assists, and points. Miami averages 2.0 goals per game, while allowing 3.7 per game. 

SENIOR NIGHT Prior to puck drop Friday night, UMD will being honoring the six seniors for their hard work and dedication.

HOBEY NOMINEES Three Bulldogs have been named as nominees for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. The Bulldogs include freshman Ben Steeves, sophomore Dominic James, and junior Wyatt Kaiser. Voting can be done daily at https://hobeybaker.com/awards/vote-for-hobey/ till March 26. 

HYGIENE DRIVE The UMD Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be collecting physical and monetary donations for their Hygiene Drive at Friday's game. Items to donate: travel toiletries, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, and hand sanitizer. All items must be new and unopened. Donations will be sent to local shelters in the Duluth community
