After a disappointing two-game start to the season (0-1-1), the University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team looks to turn things around with their home opener against St. Cloud State University on Friday and Sunday's game against Northern State University.
St. Cloud State
SCSU, like UMD, opened their season against Michigan Tech (1-0) and Northern Michigan (0-3), entering this Friday's game with an even 1-1-0 record.
Junior Ariel Hawkey scored her first collegiate goal against Michigan Tech, giving SCSU the win. The Huskies returned two of their top three scorers from last season, Jenna Dominguez and Gracie Parsons, but are still looking to improve their offensive play this weekend.
The Bulldogs lost to the Huskies in both of last season's match ups and have not won a game against SCSU since 2017. Going into the season, the Huskies were ranked ninth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, one point ahead of the Bulldogs.
UMD takes on SCSU on Friday at 6 p.m. at James S. Malosky Stadium.
