BULLDOGS FINISH UP ROAD PORTION OF 2006 SEASON IN SOUTH DAKOTA

The University of Minnesota Duluth tennis team will finish up the regular season road portion of the 2006 season with a trip to Vermillion, S.D. The Bulldogs will face Emporia State University on Saturday, April 1 at 5 p.m., and then volley with North Central Conference rival the University of South Dakota on Sunday, April 2 at 9 a.m.

UMD Bulldog Tennis Match Notes April 1-2, 2006

THE RECORDS: UMD is 8-2 overall and 3-1 in NCC play after last weekends trip to St. Peter, Minn. The Hornets are 5-3 overall and have a 1-2 record in the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Coyotes are 7-8 overall and are 0-2 in the league.

THE COACH: The two-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year, Dan Doyle (University of Minnesota, 1996), is in his sixth season with the Bulldogs. He has directed UMD to a 45-37 overall record, two NSIC championships (2003 and 2004) and two runner-up league finishes. A native of Duluth, Doyle served a two-year head coaching stint with both the Denfeld High School girl's and boy's tennis programs (1996-97). He later spent one season as the head girl's hockey coach at Red Wing High School.

BULLDOG BITS: In her first year with UMD, junior Anna Hockett has emerged as a key player for the Bulldogs...Hockett is 9-1 at the No. 1 singles position and has gone 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles with senior Kara Skildum...rookie Kelly Rosengren saw her first action on the court last weekend...Rosengren earned a win at the No. 6 singles position against Southwest Minnesota State University.

UP NEXT: Next weekend will be the final regular season of play for UMD...the Bulldogs will return home on Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9 to face NCC opponent the University of Nebraska-Omaha and then Minnesota State University-Crookston.
