Senior captain
Dani Potter netted a goal in each half as the University of Minnesota Duluth held off a late rally by Northern State University to win 2-1 at Malosky Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Northern State put pressure on the Bulldogs early, but UMD (11-3-0, 10-2-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) held tough defensively as they kept the Wolves (8-6-1, 6-5-1 NSIC) to just one shot on net in the first half. Potter would get UMD on the board finally in the 35th minute, securing the rebound of a
Hannah Keil (Jr./M) shot from a
Marissa Ganske (Fr./M) pass. The 1-0 score held as UMD was held to just five shots in the opening period.
The Bulldogs made quick work out of the break as Potter netted her tenth of the year in the 50th minute, this time assisted by freshman forward
Kailey Beatt and junior defender
Kelli Klun. Northern State sparked a late comeback when Bobby Pendleton scored a one-time shot from Khachirha Tugas, but the Bulldogs were able to keep the Wolves in their own end the rest of the way.
