The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team will conclude its regular season Thursday when it travels to Bemidji, Minn. to face Bemidji State University in Northern Sun Intercollegiate action.
For the first time since the 2013 season, UMD and BSU will play twice in a season after both sides met earlier in September. All-time, UMD is 16-12-4 against BSU, but over the past decade, just 0-8-2. In fact, the Bulldogs are seeking their first win against the Beavers since the 2014 season, and have lost seven-straight games against BSU dating back to 2018. Over the past 10 seasons, the Bulldogs are 2-4-1, and are averaging less than a goal a game – 0.92 goals a game.
In their earlier action on Sept. 12 in Duluth, Minn. on Griggs Field, it was a tale of two halves for the Bulldogs. Despite breaking through in the first half to open the scoring, the Bulldogs surrendered three goals in the second half for the 3-1 setback.
The Bulldogs piled up the corner kicks -- including six in the second half and a 9-1 advantage for the game, they were unable to convert. The Bulldogs also owned a 11-7 shots advantage, including a 6-5 lead in shots on goals.
LAST TIME OUT: UMD split on the road last weekend, defeating the University of Jamestown in Jamestown, N.D. 2-0 before dropping a 2-0 contest in Aberdeen, S.D. Sunday against Northern State University.
Kamryn Beavers had a goal in the 43rd minute, while Miriam Marsan scored on in the 79th to help the Bulldogs push past Jamestown on Friday, and put 10 shots on goal. Sunday, the Bulldogs only landed four shots against the Wolves, who scored both their second half goals off corner kicks.
