The University of Minnesota Duluth came away with a pair of convincing Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wins Saturday in Minnetonka, Minn. on Saturday, topping both Minnesota State University and Southwest Minnesota State University by identical 6-3 scores.
In the opener against Minnesota State, UMD jumped out to a 2-1 lead on doubles victories by senior
Shelby Benkofske and sophomore
Megan Anderson at No. 1 and senior
Katie Baasch and sophomore
Elsa Erickson at No. 2. Anderson (No. 2 in a tiebreaker), Erickson (No. 3), Baasch (No. 5) and freshman
Natalie Cahill (No. 4) then proceed to claim singles triumphs with Baasch extending her winning streak to a four matches.
The Bulldogs' first two doubles units prevailed again against Southwest Minnesota State and Benkofske (No. 1), Anderson, Erickson and freshman
Arielle Emerson (No. 6) all claimed singles wins.
Benkofske and Anderson are now an impressive 8-2 in doubles this season while Benkofske, Erickson and Baasch all sport 7-3 singles records.
UMD, which improved to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the NSIC, will return to the courts on April 7 for NSIC bouts with defending league champion Augustana University and St. Cloud State University.
