UMD COMPLETES THE WEEKEND SWEEP IN A DOMINATING WIN OVER UMN CROOKSTON

The University of Minnesota Duluth beat the University of Minnesota Crookston, 84-45, to complete the weekend sweep. They improve their record to 4-5 (3-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference). The Golden Eagles fall to 2-10 (1-9 NSIC).
 
UMD started the game off playing arguably their best half of the season as they dominated on both sides of the ball. Freshman forward Austin Andrews scored the first seven points for the Bulldogs to get them an early lead. From there, they let their defense generate their offense, forcing UMN Crookston to shoot just 30% from the field and 27.3% (3-11) on 3-pointers while UMD shot 62.5% from the field and 63.6% (7-11) on 3-pointers in the first half.
 
UMD went into halftime with a 40-22 lead.
 
UMD did not let their foot off the gas in the second half as they continued the onslaught, getting their lead up to 40 at one point in the game. The Bulldogs also only allowed 45 points which is the fewest amount they have let anyone score all season.
 
Overall, UMD shot 58.9% (33-56) from the field, 52.2% (12-23) on 3-pointers, had 17 assists, out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 35-30 and forced 19 turnovers. They also held UMN Crookston to 29.6% (16-54) from the field and 23.8% (5-21) on 3-pointers.
 
Freshman guard Charlie Katona led the team in scoring with 22 points and also had seven rebounds and two steals. Freshman guard Joshua Brown finished with 19 points, 5-6 on 3-pointers and one steal. Andrews finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists and junior guard Mason Steffen finished with 10 points and four rebounds.
 
The Bulldogs will be on the road for their last two weekends of the regular season. Their next matchup is against Bemidji State University Feb. 12 at 6pm.
