NO. 7 UMD POLISHES OFF NORTHERN MICHIGAN 6-3 TO COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP

Adam Krause has saved some of his best hockey for last and it certainly showed Saturday night.

The senior right winger posted the first four-point night of his collegiate career, scoring once and assisting on three other goals while sparking the Univerisyt of Minnesota Duluth top a 6-3 victory over Northern Michigan University. The non-conference triumph came in front of a sellout crowd of 7,073 at AMSOIL Arena and gave UMD its fourth series sweep of the 2014-15 season.

"It was a good win and a good weekend," said head coach Scott Sandelin. "It was nice to see some different guys score. We got a lot of guys in the lineup this weekend--and that was important. I thought some guys stepped up -- like Jared Thomas, who moved up to our first line tonight (in place of injured center Dominic Toninato)."

UMD (17-10-1 overall), took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission on even strength goals from sophomore left winger Alex Iafallo, junior left winger Charlie Sampair and Krause and then tacked on two more scores in the second intermission (from rookie right winger Karson Kuhlman and a senior right winger Justin Crandall -- his first shorthander as a Bulldog) to put the game away. Thomas's second goal in as many nights 4:23 into the third period rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs, who are now unbeaten in seven of their last eight home games (6-1-1). Thomas and Iafallo each had one assist as well. Krause, who was a team-high +4, now has 16 points this season, three more than his previous career high.

UMD, a 4-2 winner on Friday night, outshot the Wildcats 39-18 on the night and 85-35 over the weekend (Northern Michigan only attempted 79 total shots during the entire series). Bulldog junior goaltender Matt McNeely made 15 saves while improving to 3-2-0.

The Bulldogs will resume National Collegiate Hockey Conference play next Friday and Saturday with a pair of home engagements against St. Cloud State University.
